Need some help here because i've never been an audiophile and really don't know what to look for. I'm looking for something primarily for gaming but music can't sound like shit on them either. Durability is also key, though a long warranty would be equally acceptable. They need to be loud and obviously have a mic. Unfortunately they also need to be under $100, so this may not be easy. I'd love to go wireless but I know that's not really within the 100$ range and if they were, would most likely be low quality.

Help me gais, this ghetto two headset setup i'm using right now(one for sound, one for mic) is.. well.. ghetto and uncomfortable and they both suck to boot.

This is the other thread about D3. You won't get fucked over for it here.

Playtime?

I've only managed to put an hour or so in last night. Played a wizard to level 3 and kept playing with the video settings to see how much I can squeeze out of my video card. I'm running a 2-3 year old laptop with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT. I couldn't find it in either supported or unsupported lists but, since it hasn't crashed yet, I'm not fussed. The looks vs. performance balance is not bad but I'm not convinced yet.

Issues?

I haven't experienced any really. I pre-ordered the night before, had it downloading over night and installed it in the morning before going to work (all OZ time). By the time I got back home and had all the chores done, it was around 3am PST, I think, and I went straight into playing. No errors, no full server issues, no complaints whatsoever.

First impressions?

Not having played the beta, it is all very fresh. I do wish there was a paladin type of class as I used to enjoy that in D2. It doesn't matter though. They could have released it with one class and I'd still be enjoying it. I haven't gone full retard in fanboyerism but this game comes second on the list of things I was looking forward to seeing released. First was A Dance With Dragons.

Favorite class?

Gotta try others to say. Tempted to try the witch doctor next.

Figuring it out...

I'm a bit confused with a couple of things so far.

1) Character names don't need to be unique and you go by your bnet tag in chat. I could even roll two characters with the same name. The game didn't seem to care. Besides quest dialogue, I didn't see any reference to character names.

2) I joined a public game after getting my wizard to level 3 and in the space of 30 seconds or so, three quest objectives got completed before I could even leave town. I didn't need to 'join party' or anything. Is this how it is meant to work? Given this is the first play through, I'd like to see it all myself and at my pace, so I will avoid pubs for now.

I will play a little more tonight. I'm sure the list will get longer.

Like a jillion news stories, many of them *not* on gaming sites, I guess cause this is the first time a state has made a major investment in vidya games.

What I want to know is...how the hell...I don't even... I mean, Kingdom of Amalur couldn't have cost more than 10M to make, and Curt Shilling financed it outta his pocket, so they are positive several million there.

So, what the heck did they do? All this money was spent that fast on Project Copernicus MMO? How?? I haven't even seen a screenshot.

KGB and I had a good nerd talk earlier and decided to make a list of the things MMO's do that are truly optimal. Not whatever one person or another...

KGB and I had a good nerd talk earlier and decided to make a list of the things MMO's do that are truly optimal. Not whatever one person or another likes or prefers like skill decks vs class skills unlocked in order vs perk systems, but rather things that are actually done the absolute best way or token features that should 100% always be in every MMORPG to which they would apply. Expect many edits even after the thread dies.

Achievements
WarHammer Online's epic tome that kept track of everything with tabs and marks, lore and progress.
Must never 'lock you out' by out leveling, failing, forcing a choice between one or another, etc.

Commands
/note In-game note pad shared between characters to remember stuff.
/loc Simple command to display coordinates on the map in XYZ.
/XP Off Toggle earning XP

Controls
Never force a player to spam one key, make it auto fire or let them hold it down.
Do not make players wait for an animation to interact (turning a valve or searching a box for 5-10sec) when it doesn't serve a purpose.
(-Lazy design, making interruptable progress bar waits for interact points in non-combat situations)

Cosmetics
RIFT's alternate gear window that only applied appearances which overwrote the active stats gear.
Dye in some unrestricted form. Not 'weapon dye' or 'metal armor dye'. Just dye that works on anything that can be dyed.

Crafting
Cosmetic appearance and stats as separate and interchangeable as balance will allow.
Resource sink is oikay if you NEED one, but should not be a time sink unless it's entertaining.
Crafting items must all be tradeable, and not require craft skill.

Guilds
Must have noticeable unique marks. Banners, emblems, flags, capes.
Ranks with customized permissions.

Loot
No need to click or pick up common rewards like currencies.
Items drop as bags rather than the body itself be a container.
Just dropping crafting ingredients rather than trash loot.
All actions done in the field without item aid, identification, salvage, convert to gold, etc.

Misc.
Torch/Light to view dark environments.

Pets
Pets should be available to all, though not mandatory. - Needs refining. Permadeath/consumables? PvE only?
No colision detection on pets.
Pets do not pull aggro, or their AI is smart enough to exactly follow and includes a wait command.

Progression
Vertical Progression must use only one increment. No switching from levels to gear tiers.
Horizontal progression becomes Vertical if you don't restrict when options can be changed.

PvE
Enemies must be more than math checks. Blocking, dodging, planning, adapting. SOMETHING.

PvP
Team mechanics as the focus for balance rather than one on one.
Number of factions/teams > 2.
Ability to affect the playing field is mandatory a static map is not sufficient.

Questing
If not entertaining, they must serve a purpose like showing you a place or mechanic.
Items that require defeating a specific enemy drop from that enemy, no 'guarding' interact points for people to steal while you're in combat.
All players recieve credit for all quest items (Find 10 lizard skins).

Respecs
Free, easy, unlimited respecs in the very earliest levels. First zone's full level range.

Social
Leveling Pacts (linked XP between two characters)
Waypoint/Visual queue to members, easily toggled.
If data on a group member is not available, display why/their location.
Account wide and character specific friends lists
Do not implement chat restrictions you do not enforce, like only one global channel 'meant' for trade or something.

Sound
Using sound effects is okay, but music must never be a queue for anything crucial.

UI
Pressing escape should be the key to close the active window, for every window in your UI.
Be consistent with UI queues. Interaction points should all shine/glow/pointer change the same way.
If your game says you can play X roles, you must have X FULL gear set windows to swap between.
UI should never suddenly become a challenge, like having to carry a massive quest item with no warning.

World
Respawn rates are not to be abused to up difficulty.
What can be reached or not reached should be intuitive with no invisible walls.
No breath meters unless it serves as part of a niche game like survival/realism.
Visibility should be excellent unless it serves a purpose. Puzzle, tactics, etc.

Arma II alone never appealed to me, it's a hyperrealistic military simulation. You can drive tanks, cars, buses, watercraft, aircraft, whatever. The mod turns it into persistent world zombie apocalypse survival over 225 kilometers of terrain/cities/suburbs. It adds in realistic damage/health/unconciousness, etc. You need food and supplies, etc. These 2 guys are trying to make their way to an airfield in the far NW of the map. One of them sounds alot like Arnold.

So, any of you guys playing this?

Focused heavily on PvP content and end-game, with a community managed by Sanya Weathers, Dominus was shaping up to be a very interesting game for PvP centric players. Unfortunately due to lack of investor funding it has closed down development after several successful stress tests and a product that, if still requiring polish and content; was making great strides in reaching production.

There wasn't very much (if any) buzz for the game, and this probably spelled it's undoing.

I have a suggestion for any would be projects of the future. Proof of concept your core gameplay in a short scenario in an "offline demo" similar to what Dragon's Nest did. Kickstarter the funds needed to do this if you don't have them. A proof of concept demo will establish a much larger fan base by proving you can make the type of game claim you're developing. There are so many MMO's, and so many die on the vine; that gamers these days need either an insanely good concept or something tangible to latch on to to become a fan.

A game with lots of fans, and subsequently buzz and press coverage has a way easier time finding investors than a game that doesn't.

Is having a hard time selling investors on the idea of funding a hybrid sandbox/fantasy MMO. I've been following the project with keen interest, and have traded words no few times with other fans and the dev staff on the official boards. *Yes, they actually post there*. While they have some self-funding and the backing of Paizo, they need to scrape together a large enough team and big enough backing (# of people, even if it's a dollar) to prove the concept viable through a *playable tech demo* to raise the type of investment needed to make it properly.

If you're tired of WoW clones and want a fantasy sandbox that strives to be a real RPG instead of Mad Max in Forgotten Realms, I urge you to check it out. The number of people backing the project will be far more important than the amount they "kick" in. Even though I don't agree with every design thoughts these guys have, they are willing to defend them on the boards and have meaningful discussions with the people interested in their product. Ergo, they are actually gamers and give a fuck.
