Focused heavily on PvP content and end-game, with a community managed by Sanya Weathers, Dominus was shaping up to be a very interesting game for PvP centric players. Unfortunately due to lack of investor funding it has closed down development after several successful stress tests and a product that, if still requiring polish and content; was making great strides in reaching production.

There wasn't very much (if any) buzz for the game, and this probably spelled it's undoing.

I have a suggestion for any would be projects of the future. Proof of concept your core gameplay in a short scenario in an "offline demo" similar to what Dragon's Nest did. Kickstarter the funds needed to do this if you don't have them. A proof of concept demo will establish a much larger fan base by proving you can make the type of game claim you're developing. There are so many MMO's, and so many die on the vine; that gamers these days need either an insanely good concept or something tangible to latch on to to become a fan.

A game with lots of fans, and subsequently buzz and press coverage has a way easier time finding investors than a game that doesn't.

Is having a hard time selling investors on the idea of funding a hybrid sandbox/fantasy MMO. I've been following the project with keen interest, and have traded words no few times with other fans and the dev staff on the official boards. *Yes, they actually post there*. While they have some self-funding and the backing of Paizo, they need to scrape together a large enough team and big enough backing (# of people, even if it's a dollar) to prove the concept viable through a *playable tech demo* to raise the type of investment needed to make it properly.

If you're tired of WoW clones and want a fantasy sandbox that strives to be a real RPG instead of Mad Max in Forgotten Realms, I urge you to check it out. The number of people backing the project will be far more important than the amount they "kick" in. Even though I don't agree with every design thoughts these guys have, they are willing to defend them on the boards and have meaningful discussions with the people interested in their product. Ergo, they are actually gamers and give a fuck.

Big article here: http://www.gameinformer.com/b/featur...ls-online.aspx

Juicy bits:
Long rumored and much anticipated, The Elder Scrolls Online is finally being unveiled in the June issue of Game Informer. In this month's cover story we journey across the entire land of Tamriel, from Elsweyr to Skyrim and everywhere in between.

"It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years," said game director and MMO veteran Matt Firor, whose previous work includes Mythic's well-received Dark Age of Camelot. "The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise."

An in-depth look at everything from solo questing to public dungeons awaits in our enormous June cover story – as well as a peek at the player-driven PvP conflict that pits the three player factions against each other in open-world warfare over the province of Cyrodiil and the Emperor's throne itself.

The Elder Scrolls Online is scheduled to come out in 2013 for both PC and Macintosh.

Announcement Teaser:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, as much as I'd love this to be good, I don't think it will be. I bet it will be Warhammer WoW'der Scrolls Online. Not because anything gives that impression, but because that's the way shit goes. I'm just thrilled they did it with another shell company instead of ruining Bethesda Game Studios. Really for an ES online to work it would need to have a short curve to cap and be sandbox instead of theme-park progression based. We'll see when more info is revealed I suppose, although the trailer already sets the stage as massive disappointment compared to say, Skyrim's teaser.

/update: First screenshot looks like amateur hour cartoony stuff. Doesn't bode well.
