Thread: Day Z Arma 2 Mod

  1. #1

Default Day Z Arma 2 Mod

I really want to play this mod, perhaps enough to buy the game.

Arma II alone never appealed to me, it's a hyperrealistic military simulation. You can drive tanks, cars, buses, watercraft, aircraft, whatever. The mod turns it into persistent world zombie apocalypse survival over 225 kilometers of terrain/cities/suburbs. It adds in realistic damage/health/unconciousness, etc. You need food and supplies, etc. These 2 guys are trying to make their way to an airfield in the far NW of the map. One of them sounds alot like Arnold.

So, any of you guys playing this?

i bought Arma: Combat operations years ago for 40$.

Hated it with a passion. One of my biggest gripes was how the controls handled.

I highly doubt I'll touch another Arma title.

Edit: And it figures, that video actually looked pretty enjoyable. Reminds me a lot of STALKER

There is a free version of Arma 2 they offer. I'm not sure but the only difference between it and the paid version i found in 20 seconds of googling is no high-res textures.

So in theory, you can still play this mod for free.

Nah, it needs the Operation something xpac to work right, which is $16.50

The video is probably very interesting, but I just couldn't get over the Arnold voice. When he says, "C'mon, get up you pussy," at about 3:45 I completely lost it.

We bought Arma 2: Combined Operations ($29.99 on steam). To be able to play this mod without a hassle. Zombie sandboxen is too irresistible. So, me and Aeinna are in. Should you decide WTH and jump in, let us know so we can try to get on the same server.

Maybe if you guys are still playing it in a week. $30 is more than I really want to spend with Diablo 3 in 3 days.

So it's persistent world like an MMO? Are these private servers hosted by players? I played the shit out of LFD and LFD2.

Zombie MMO make such strong call..........

It's persistent character. So, if you log off in a shack in the middle of the woods on one server, if you come back online later no matter the server you will start with the same shit in the same location.

No, it's stored on a central secure server.

It just goes to show that in an apocalyptic world, zombies are the least of your worries.

I like the look of the game though.

    ROFL @:
And what you really need, in case you do get it, is Arma 2 & Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. Let me or Marou know if you buy this, so we can link you to the easy way of installing this mod.

So we played for 3 hours last night before we went to bed. It took 2 hours and 50 minutes to find each other. During this, Marou got eated by zombies and had to restart. I went swimming and lost everything on me besides for my gun. Night is seral bidniss and the ambient music makes it worse. I almost had a heart attack when I encountered my first person, because I was like "Oh shit shit, gonna die!". During all of this, we realized we were running away from each other the whole time.

I didn't see much because I stuck to the coastline, so we could get to each other easier. I did happen to catch someone in the distance at one point, near a town, throw a flare and then from the red glow of said flare (was the only fucking light in the whole area) I saw zombies running toward that person. Not sure if they made it, I ran away.

The average survival time is 4 hours and 30 minutes. Marou made it 2 hours. I have 1 and a half more to go.

The worst part about the zombies is they aren't slow romero zombies, they are more like Rage zombies. So, since it's this hyper-realistic military sim instead of a regular shooter while you're being chased by 30 of the fuckers you can hold alt (to de-tether your head movement from your body) and look somewhat beside/behind you while you run... You can't backpedal fast at all, in fact it can lead to you tripping over a rock or something. These be lessons learned from being eaten after sprinting over 2 miles with alot of pissed off zombies in tow.

    I ran outta ammo...

You forgot to add that you can break legs by tripping, thus making you unable to walk and all you can do is either crawl or get dragged/carried. I've heard splints are one of the hardest things to find in the game.

I thought the funniest thing was how the game almost inadvertently turns the people playing it into roleplayers. The conversation from the guys with standard FPS games talking over side chat on the radio could have been right out of any zombie survival movie. I think they were completely unaware of it.

The learning curve is a little steep. Everything is in there, repairing buildings, tents, laying fortifications (barb-wire, etc), night vision goggles, repairable flyable heli's, etc. It all has it's own buttons and control schemes. You must have a microphone and headphones to play. When it started raining at night and the moon was covered it was darker than the devil's asshole, I could literally see *nothing* without throwing a road flare, which I didn't want to do. So, I hear some guy's voice coming out of the darkness to my right cause he hears me moving around. "Is someone out there? Don't shoot me! I'm friendly." People with negative humanity (Player killers) take on the appearance of bandits. This seems to make life even worse than it is usually, so while there is plenty of it, their average lifespan is quite a bit shorter than a regular survivors.

Bottom line is, there hasn't been a game like this out before. It's brutal, the polar opposite of casual friendly cross platform games, and the only real goal is to live as long as possible by whatever means possible. It's not gonna appeal to everyone of course, but if you always wanted something like that, here ya go. There are no achievements, experience points, or changes to realism for the sake of playability. It is what it is, that appeals to you or it doesn't.

I definitely enjoy hearing your *stories* about playing the game. I know I wouldn't enjoy actually playing it though. Hopefully you can keep us posted?

Maybe you can do a surviving in Z day thread? I'd read the shit out of that.

Two more hours into the game, Marou has almost died twice so far. He is pretty fucked up from major blood loss. We found a fairly big city and a hospital but no blood for a transfusion. What we did find was a hunting knife and some matches. Up to this point, getting to the hospital was almost our death. Zombies kept coming at us from all directions and since it is still alpha, one almost pulled me through a fence.

Instead of going further into the city, we decide to go into the woods in the hopes of coming across a deer or cow, so we can kill it, make a camp fire and cook its meat. We've been wandering through the woods for about 30 minutes and Marou falls down a slope and cracks his leg, so now he is on morphine, everything is black and white and can barely see the stuff in front of him. Logged off there for dinner.

5 hours into the game, I am okay but I might die from starvation because I keep giving Marou my food so his blood count goes up. I don't think we will last once night hits.

I'm so fucked up from our encounter with 30 or so zombies in the town I'd be inclined to just die, if I didn't know it'd take me forever to meet up with Aeinna again, and I have a Winchester with around 50 shells. Unfortunately I don't have a pack, and I've been eating food like it's going out of style to try to get my blood back up so my character isn't so faint. We did find some barb wire fencing and such, but no bag (lost mine swimming some time back).

So, I'm at 1/3rd normal blood, cracked leg, morphine orderdose, 2 canteens of water, a winchester, and a bunch of ammo. I need a blood transfusion or a bunch of red meat. We're heading towards what may be a rural town. Hopefully we'll find a field of cows instead of a group of bandits or another misleading zombie ambush. We did get another pair of binoculars, but we're yet to find map and compass; let alone GPS.

Long term it'd be nice to find some tents and set up a base camp in the deep woods near a pond or lake. Fix up a motorcyle and start stockpiling some supplies. Pretty long way off from that at the moment. If we could score some night vision goggles that would be the ideal to try and raid some of the bigger cities. Without them, it's straight masochistic.

I just want to say: All you whores that always whine about wanting an ultimate pvp game (e.g. the Mordred folks), need to get this Z Day game. It looks as though Marou and Aeinna have found THE ultimate pvp game.

Edit: Watch this if you doubt it.
