Simple nature of the gaming industry.

This is what happens when EA buys you out. People said it when they bought Mythic and look at the state of Mythich. Now even Bioware is sucking it up.

Yeah its kind of sad. I used to enjoy their games a great deal. It's deals and shit like this that really puts how awesome Valve is into perspective.

I think you mean that this is what happens when you develop an MMO. MMO teams get downsized after launch because it doesn't take as many people to maintain the game. BioWare had hoped to buck the trend with SWTOR, and even made a point of saying as much, but that wasn't really an option when SWTOR failed to be the new hit game.

That would be true but some of the people being laid off ARE the positions you keep after an MMO is released. Sure some jobs are development only on a normal basis but the discussion in the forums was that some of these positions ado not fit that category. (some specific names were thrown around).

You're regurgitating theories someone else drew X's all over on some forum, that can't be falsified!

No really, I don't think it's so much that they are keepers vs not keepers so much as quantity. To make the game you need lets say ten animators. They wanted to keep ten animators on the payroll to continue putting out ten animators worth of animations each cycle. They had to let a bunch go. Just because games need an animator, doesn't mean they can't let some of the animators go. Even if they let EVERY animator go, that doesn't mean someone else on the team doesn't know how to do animation.
