Fun fact: I type the journals out before I play the season, thats why in canon the journals are written in the month before the chapter starts.
Chapter 5 Dig it Like Urst.
I leg got cut during the fighting, I only write this as it is one of the few times my mind is not taken by fever. I meant to write this in my journal, but it has been soaked with blood and vomit I asked Boxy for some parchment which he gave me, this report, if I die, as poor as it is, will be my legacy. I heard the fighting as I was working, quite fittingly, on a coffin. I ran to the entrance with my mason hammer. Already I heard the screams of the wounded. That goblin waving its sword in the air over the body of one of our own, it screamed its name. “Ngebzo! Ngebzo!” over and over like vile curse. They pushed forward, our dwarfs falling to its terrible blade pushing us back. Someone screamed ‘run’ and we did, but not Gimlimeister. I did not see what happened to him, not when the goblins came pour down the stairs after us. We fought them there, one of them got me in the leg and now I lay here, writing this report to the best of my abilities, I am not even sure if Norska still lives. I called out for help, but everyone seems more worried about making sure that carrivan can give us supplies, every now and again I am sure I can hear the voices of the dead, Gilm, Taost and even Nah, who lays before me, his blood and brains I may be sitting in, unable to move in this hallway. Madness and fear plague us, there is no cure.

Winter 252
Time to reestablish jobs. Euro is helping our metal smiths make use of every scrap of iron we can scrape together. Drac is now helping make soap to before infection kills our wounded. I have named our tradesdwarf Cohac.
Woodstock is our new sheriff and Dark Hades is our new militia commander. He will lead a squad of Sax, Garal, and a hunter who I just named Truck. They are all hunters and rangers, that way they can keep doing their jobs without having to train. Zavan will be leading another squad of melee fighters with Zoobi and two other unnamed dwarfs.
I have made the miners start digging almost straight down rather then taking the time to check out each layer hoping to strike the top of an underground chasm to avoid having an entrance level to whatever horror lurks below. They dig straight down the idea is to get access to megma or an underground water source so the dwarfs don’t have to go outside unless its to do their job.
We found Landon, he was dead outside the entrance, he almost made it back inside. Made enough coffins for everyone. Nesters wound has gotten infected and he is still bleeding out.
Trading with the dwarf caravan as brought us more weapons and armor, steel and iron this time. I forgot the game is kind of a smart ass so you have to make the boots, the leggings, the chest peace and the helmet separately, that’s why we have so many head and leg injuries.
The brook froze over, not good, for some reason wounded dwarfs will only drink water and not wine or beer. In lighter news; one of the cats gave birth to kittens!
Looks like Nester is up and moving, though with nerve damage so he will be needing a crutch.
More goblin thieves, two, one of them punched a cat, the cat lived, the goblins didn’t. guardsmen of the caravan saw some toe Kea people buzzing around. They flew into a battle trance and swung their weapons pointlessly as kea people can fly.
One of the children has lost her mother, father, a friend and a sister in the battle and was throwing a tantrum. Found Djive he was dead on the outskirts of the settlement. Guess the goblins got him first.
Alex gave birth, to a boy, the father was Nah so the boy is born without a father and one of the other children has grown to become a peasant and has joined the army.
Dug a few layers down and struck marble. Esfires gave birth to a girl. This is the highest birth rate of any fortress I have ever played. We are 65 dwarfs. Uber gave birth to a boy, Nicky was the father, Smeekins Pyrrhus are Ubers grandparents according to the relationships page. His father and mother are is unnamed dwarfs who have not come to Gamecat.
The report says that one of the children has been driven to melancholy, I have never seen this before, it’s the one that lost most of her family, guess she has a reason to be upset. Oh, and I noticed her living sister is the one that got snatched by goblins way back in the early chapters.
And now Woodstock gave birth to a girl. The liaison from the homeland is following Norska around, watching him build a chair or something. No luck with the miners finding anything besides more rock so far.
I am told a snow storm as come, so far it just turns the ground white. An unnamed clother has been taken by a fey mood and is now making something in the clother’s workshop. And I made Norska his own tomb, for later. Clother is finished with his project… it’s a wool sock, it has spikes on it.
Another ambush, Smeekins found them this time. She almost gets away but is struck down by their leader, a goblin with a hammer. Truck arrives but its to late, wounds one of the goblins. Another ambush, I am pulling our dwarves to the fort to make a last stand. Zoobi is wounded by a crossbow bolt to the chest and falls to the hammerman.
This is not going well, our recruits where no match for them, though they killed some. Truck died out in the woods killing two not sure where the other cross bow dwarfs are. Sax got killed too, some how. Taolas has been found dead, I think he was the first to go. One of our cats bled to death. I tried a small push to try and kill their leader but Nester died, Boxy is missing and we got wounded everywhere. Norska got his head caved in by the goblin hammerer, he will be missed, though because he is the leader this is his fault. Marou, got it pretty bad the hammerman knocked him down and starting hitting him over and over in the head, not quite knocking him out or killing him before a pikemen finished him off.
I am interrupted by a diplomat telling me he is unhappy.
I think a child got killed in all of this. Sofista was killed by a spear. They took the first floor of the fort, where we had our farms. Its not even fair anymore, the goblins are just ripping through everyone. We don’t have very good fighters. I check the fight history and it says the gobin just knocks someone down and then hits them over the head with his hammer. Silly and Esfires have died and so has Ero. Nicky is dead and Alex bled to death from a head wound. Grave died trying to fight a crossbow gobbling unarmed I am not kidding. Wulf gave birth, odd time for that but I guess we need more dwarfs.
Down to 24 dwarfs, 13 of them are children.
Wulf died in battle, a vain one though, down to Drac, Cohac, and Uber. Uber got struck down, Cohac bled out alone (crossbow shot). Drac was the last to die. All that’s left are children I do not feel like playing through that, Gamecat would have been a full two years old in five days.
So ends the saga of Gamcat,

Most of you died by getting your head smashed in. I know not all of you are accounted for, but the game lists dwarfs as missing until someone finds the body and a lot of you died on the upper floors alone as the rest got pushed back down the stairs.
I think next time I am bringing a fighter along with the starting seven so he can teach others how to fight. If you guys want me to keep this up, I can reclaim it, try a new spot, or someone else can do this. If we start in the same world though it will pick up at the start of next year 253.
