Question Different races, mobility and hitboxes

Because there seems to be so many damn things to do in this game, I figured I should spend a little more time upfront rolling a couple of characters to see if any will definitely stand out from the start.

    I know. Genius.

One of the things that has got me thinking and doubting some of my original choices is the mobillity of difference races - or at least how I perceive the charr's, for example, as damn slow and asuras as damn fast. I'm assuming that this is just a matter of animation and the need for a smaller being to perform more steps to cover the same distance. No difference in actual speed.

The other thing that is bothering me is that I heard that the hitboxes are different according to race - as is, biggest hitboxes for charr and norns and smallest for asuras, with human and sylvari in the middle. I couldn't get a source for this so am wondering if anyone can confirm.

I like the idea of playing a charr but damn does it feel slow and, if on top of that, it is a bigger target (not just visually), I'll probably reroll.

    See how awesome I am?

Have you considered stacking swiftness? There are lots of sources for most classes. I saw one in Engineer that gave me a 50% chance to gain 5sec of Swfitness on crits, could happen once every five seconds. If you get above +40% boon duration and 50% crit chance you could write that off as that perma swiftness in combat. I think it was even in the precision (crit chance) trait line.

    EDIT--
In fact that sounds better than recharge. Most of the rifle skills are shorter range than the regular attack and they knock people back anyway, so I don't need recharge for them. I think I'll go put that trait on Veek.

I've read that hit boxes are the same for all races. Also, the trick to making a Norn or a Charr, is to make them as small as possible with both the physique and the height. The smallest norn is about the equivalent of a tall human.

I actually made a norn female guardian (Veeks Vex) and was really surprised by how short she was. The norn's height slider seems to allow a much greater difference in height than the Humans and Sylvari.

Hit boxes might be the same but being a tiny asura hiding behind some battlements trolling people with a rain of fire is gonna be much better than being a charr elementalist imo.

I hadn't thought about that, VK, but there would need to be something else to compensate for it and that I could forego in my gear. For example, a slower race with more hp would be a trade off that I'd think about. Adding swiftness is something that I could do to a faster race and become even faster. I really don't think there is an actual difference in speed though and that it is just animation.

On the note of sizes, I always go for smallest. With this one though, I couldn't help it. Charrs look freaking mean and having a truck sized one is just win.

I haven't had any trouble targeting Asura up on keeps in WvW. There bodies may be mostly hidden, but their red names are clearly visible.
