    Default My First Thoughts On WvW

    So... Does anyone else feel like the WvW just... kind of... sucks total ass?

    It's not a game breaker for me (This is the best MMO community I've seen since early DAoC, and the game in general is still fun as shit), but I just had my first all night WvW sesh (about 8 hours), and I was having fun with my 5 RL friends hunting down groups of baddies and wiping them... But when we actually decided to participate in a keep take, it was literally just our zerg chasing their zerg back to their keep, 90% of our zerg dying, and then having their zerg chase what was left of our zerg back to our keep, having 90% of their zerg die, then we'd chase what was left of them back to their keep, etc. etc. etc. And it went on like that for like... 4 hours. We got tons of kills, XP, karma (I call them purple mountain's majesty points since I can never remember it's called karma), and since we had a co-ordinated group in skype I don't think we died once. I know I didn't die the whole night on my Mesmer until I was ready to suicide and log, but that's because as far as I can tell Mesmers are impossible to kill.

    Anyway, I digress.

    The main thing that was dicey about the whole evening was that while control points and supply points and all that shit changed hands like a motherfucker, only one keep changed hands the entire night. We're talking one successful keep take out of all three worlds during the 8 hours that I was playing WvW. That just seems wrong. I don't know if they're going to adjust siege weaponry to make it less game changing (at this point it's pretty much whoever has the most arrow turrets gaynesses wins the battle), or if we should just stick to open field roaming, but I was VERY unimpressed with the WvW system.

    Now, I get that it's early in the game, and a lot of things still have to be adjusted. At this point they're just worried about making sure everyone can play the game before they properly balance out the PvP, and that's fine. It's not like I'm going to quit the game because PvP on the second day of release was shitty.

    Haven't stepped foot into it yet since release, expect the meta to evolve in the coming months to where people are actually coming up with overall strategies.

    I did some WvW today. I lagged around large zergs, so went around and killed supply dolyaks and would stumble upon other allies and take a supply camp. Got some nice level appropriate gear. Got a good amount of mats from mining (mostly iron and gold). Got like 1.5 levels fairly easily. Things did change around quite a bit, but eventually we got a foothold in another server's realm, right outside our gate, and would push left/right areas and sometimes people would sneak to the back areas and take something.

    I noticed you can upgrade stuff for cash, and I thought you could upgrade stuff with supply (other than build siege), but didn't see that.

    ^

    A huge array of level adjusted players in varying build quality operating at opening weekend populations are zerging easy points that haven't been upgraded and getting pwned by keeps. I'm not even touching WvWvW until I've got 100% map completion because it'll be a totally different experience in two months.

    Yeah I'm in the same boat. I'm more interested in finding a main, and doing 100% map. I swear I've never enjoyed pve and exploring more than in this game.

    Especially the water areas. I love finding hidden little caves and things.

    I fought the Shatterer(the big brand dragon that was shown at all the big media events) last night in Blazeridge Steppes. It was fucking awesome, also found and defeated the jumping puzzle in that zone. This game is so awesome to just explore and find hidden areas. I'm more and more impressed by Arena.net everytime I play this game. Also up to my lvl 55 personal story quest and it is getting very interesting .

    BG = Red v Blue?

    I liked those, too. It's like LoL all over again. Lots of people playing like it's unreal tournament just trying to kill single target or find someone to 1v1.

    I had a guy in full custom gear using two custom weapons crush two people on my team and mess me up. Obviously this was someone who's been PvP'n while I was PvE'n since launch and knew what they were doing. So I slapped his ass and called his mother a whore, then ran him off to the back of the map. Genius chased my Charr Ele, in the starter robe, for about four minutes before he managed to finish me off, then tells me how awesome he was for 'owning' me... meanwhile his team doesn't have their MVP and my team doesn't have a first match noob in the wrong gear for his spec. My team was up 150 pts and about to win by the time we saw each other again at contested point.

    As far as I can tell, the starter gear has the same exact stats as the pvp gear that he picked up from winning tourneys. Its supposed to be purely cosmetic. (Not that you said otherwise, I just wanted to make sure you knew that)

    This is 100% correct. The only difference would be that he probably replaced the sigils and runes with more appropriate ones, which is something anyone can do but it sounds like VKhaun hasn't yet.

    I spent the last day fooling around with mesmer specs, and I'm pretty sure I had the best one right off the bat. Basically I'm specced so my illusions do maximum damage, inflict bleeds on crit, and have a lot more crit chance. Plus I gain defense, damage and movement speed boosts for each illusion I have out. The illusions hit hard enough by themselves, but when you add in the 9 stacks of bleed that they constantly keep on my target from critting so much, I CHEW through health. Plus I have 2 ways to cure all my conditions, stealth and a polymorph.
