    Default PlanetSide 2 Founders Pack

So I got the founders pack and tried this out for a moment today.

The lethality is waaaayyy up from the last game with lots of instant kills.
The MAX especially is notably squishier than in the original.

I wasn't really happy to see melee go CoD style, but the MAX suits can melee now so that made up for it.

    Speed and pace feels good.

Night fighting was unpleasant. It looked cool to see other people fighting with bright projectiles flying everywhere but when I fire, my own rounds light up so bright I can't see anything inside my own iron sights. If someone shoots at me with an automatic I can't see shit. Maybe I'll get used to it, and there are scope attachments to unlock like red dots and IRNV scopes that will probably help.

What is CoD melee style? The only melee I did in old PS was when Mrs. Peel would hide on top of a base console invisible and slash someone open with the chainsaw knife when they tried to hack the base.
-Agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial.

-"Personally, I play a warlock to set people on fire as they run in fear while I steal their souls. As an added perk, I play an undead warlock so I can eat their brains afterwards. I suppose a better question is, why do people play anything else?" (Unknown WoW forum poster)

It's been so long I don't remember melee in PS, but didn't you have a melee weapon you pulled out? In CoD, there is no knife or w/e, you hit the melee button and swing whatever you're holding (old CoD) or do a melee slash with a knife (Black ops, etc). You don't actually have a melee mode or weapon, just a hotkey for a strike.

I have yet to play it, so my opinion means nothing, but from what I'm hearing of PS2 I'm preparing for disappointment.

Yeah PlanetSide was like old school shooters where it had the melee as another 'gun' you switched to and fired. PlanetSide 2 and the CoD series have you press a button to do a melee attack instead. MAX armor will strike with it's arm weapons, infantry pull a knife and swing.

The only disappointment I had was the small size of the map. It's one continent of varied terrain, about twice the size of a continent from PS1. Realistically though the vast majority of the previous game was dead at all times and you only had a few hotspots to pick from. The new map is much better, but still loses that grand scale and frontiers feel.

I did not like the VANU standard weapons, but I didn't like them in PlanetSide 1 either.

I would not trust early reviews. The cert points are mostly disabled so a lot of your passives aren't in effect and lots of weapons are not represented. My play test was a bunch of night skirmishes close to outposts that would have played out VERY differently with shotguns and extra nades. Heavy assault especially will get tougher in three directions once they can spend certs and I have no doubt they'll overtake MAX armor in defense within the first two months. Pretty much the only thing available now are the weapon attachments. A little more is available overpriced, but not much.

Planetside 2 blows. It plays like Battlefield 3 with some shit from Planetside instead of real world stuff. This is not a proper follow up. I was a huge fan of the original and this game was not made for me.

As far as i'm concerned, Planetside is a memory, since i'm sure it is a ghost town now. It doesn't really seem like the developers had any idea of what made the original great. Then again, I guess the original probably wasn't that big in the scope of things, so I guess I can't blame them for going another way.

I wouldn't feel right arguing about the original. I played that one as an objective-based stealther pulling sneaking hacks and sabotage stunts. So for one I don't really know the infantry combat of PlanetSide 1 like most do, and I can't really play like that here... which is probably a point for valec...

My standards are pretty low right now though.
    It's better than CS:GO that's for sure.

GO is so bad. I played for 17 minutes. Might check out dust2. Might.

I like the molotove/incindiary grenades a lot. They make all the maps feel fresh. I like rushing water on Aztec and tossing a molotov into the CT side of the bridge.

CS:GO also runs MUCH more smoothly than CS:S on my machine. Loads faster, alt-tabs better, doesn't crash. Don't regret my purchase (What was it, $15?) but I do regret that they didn't do more with it. Not repeating buy presets was a slap in the face, even if it had cost me a dollar.

This is the impression I'm getting from people whose opinions I value.

Still having fun with it, but I wish the 'instant action' button was on a shorter timer. The little outposts will end up a hotspot, then the skirmish will end quickly and everyone will scatter. Without the lattice there's no obvious next target and you can't get vehicles everywhere.

    I hate this thread now.

I can not think of one single nice thing to say about PlanetSide 2. It's not really impressive in any particular way. Spawning is buggy, drop pods have terrible air control, not enough barrel/rail attachments in the game, way too many currencies and resources, heavy assault is OP, medics rez too fast IMO...

But it's SO MUCH FUN. The size of it feels really good. Movement and aiming feels really good. Throwing nades feels good. Killing/Dying feels right. It just plays way too good for being such a mediocre game. It's like the WoW of shooter games or something.

I was almost late for work today and skipped a shower sitting there shooting people. I haven't been like this about a shooter game since I was still in school. I don't think I was ever even like this about the last game.
