    Default Mountanious Molehills

Decided to post this in reference to Dracs post about my "fanboism" towards new mmos. The fact is, I am quite honest in my portryal of games that I review. With Swtor, for instance, I predicted I would only be entertained for 3 months or so. I was.

Admittedly, though, I am quite heavy handed in my presentations. Why do I do that? Because a lot of you are seriously whiny bitches. It is my hope to penetrate, that deep nostalgia and jaded cynicism that coats so many of your judgments. The habits that many of you have formed to look at the things games wont do. No new mmo, regardless of budget, is going be your soulmate. No game will ever blow you. If you are having a shitty time in life, that will transfer to a shitty time in game.

It is my only wish, that in bringing you my opinions, that you entertain the plausability that a game is just a *fun game*.

Thank you for your time, hope you watched the video.

Oh! For the record, I too am guilty of this at times. So I'm not just pointing fingers.

I can't watch that video. He's so disturbingly long winded and redundant in that monotone voice it just makes my brain hurt.

Irony? Relax dude. It really wasn't an attack.

The fact that you were glowing over SWTOR while knowing you would play it for only 3 months, is the whole picture of why I can't personally put much weight in your reviews. :P

I think I'm actually kind of a light gamer at this point in my life compared to a lot of people here, so I have to have a pretty addictive experience to want to sit on my computer for hours on end. If I don't find that, I'm not butthurt, I just won't waste my time. Pretty simple!

Maybe different people have fun in different ways? I love full-loot, open world PvP, significant consequences for death, full-theft systems with player interaction, capless skill systems with diminishing returns, etc etc. Many people don't. I enjoy heavy sandbox and heavy consequence. GW2 ain't it. DAoC wasn't it either, but Mordred had enough of what I was looking for (I *really* enjoyed having 52 classes - love variety and "imbalance"!) plus a group of close friends to play with. Darkfall was alright, but mismanaged and faded out. Mortal Online was even closer to what I enjoy, but it's buggy and underpopulated. So, I try what sounds promising as far as what I like, and if it doesn't sound promising... well then I don't bother.

I've played the same game for 14 years, not because of nostalgia, but because it's a damned good game. I've had 20 something characters in that time and *still* have not played all of the possibilities, because it's a very open and incredibly deep skill and class system - and I still learn new details and secrets about the game regularly. The majority of modern gamers scoff at this game because it doesn't contain graphics, it's more like a book as far as visualizing the world. It's not fun to many people, because it involves reading. I don't call them whiny bitches.

I won't play tabletop with people who can't agree on a schedule and maintain a campaign for more than 2 or 3 sessions - even though the sessions would still be a lot of fun! I'm not looking for "fun for 3 months" - and I'm not bothered by the fact that you can experience that. But, since we are clearly very different gamers with different levels of excitement for different features, why would me not finding your reviews helpful be insulting to you? You're a different gamer, and not a particularly tough critic. You can overlook certain flaws, or not miss certain aspects of game X or game Y, and still find your time and money invested "worth it". That doesn't make me a whiny bitch, it just means I have fun and enjoy video games in a different way. Time is all we have, if something doesn't sound fun to me, why would I force myself to spend money and time trying it? Time is limited and I have plenty of hobbies and people I like to split it between! Sorry if that offends you!

My life is amazing by the way, so it has nothing to do with that.

Drac, I didn't meant to imply your life was anything but amazing (I have no idea). What I meant, was like "in a pissy mood".
